I'm a mayonnaise lover and always add it to my tonkatsu or tempura. My favourite brand of mayonnaise has to be Kewpie Mayonnaise. Every brand needs a logo or mascot but not all comes as kawaii as Kewpie. Just look at this lovely Kewpie baby. Such an innocent baby doll that I couldn't help adopting. Kewpie doll comes in various sizes and mine is approximately 25cm(10"). It has five points articulations and can be posed sitting or seated. Kewpie Doll is not sold commercially and this usually found as display at mayonnaise section inside supermarket. Therefore, I would consider myself lucky to chance upon this at fleamarket. The doll is made in Japan and baby Kewpie has a pair of wings at the rear.

I would not associate a cute vintage baby doll with a mayonnaise brand, I would consider it pretty weird, but it looks like in Japan all kind of weird stuff could be pretty normal, go figure... As souvenir and collectible is quite interesting, since, as you mentioned, is only available as promotional for display in stores... By the way, I love mayonnaise on potatoes, fries, salads, roasted meat, soups and a long, long etcetera, HEHEHE...
Mayonnaise on potatoes, egg and katsu are nice.. Yummy... It’s quite common in Japan even back in the past that very company or product comes with a mascot. Kind of for easier recognition..
Definitely a must have mascot for your favourite brand!!
Yeah! You are so right about that : )
