M CON II 2012 - Part 1 (Military)

It was by chance I took noticed of M CON II 2012 when I saw the promotional poster two months ago. Only having a vague idea of the event, I made a daring attempt to crush it and put my newly equipped DSLR to its first test.

Held at Sculpture Square, this second M CON was brought back to model hobbyists and by hobbyists themselves after an interval of 4 years. A showcase of models of different genre from tanks, planes, warships, automobiles, busts, dioramas, to sci-fi and anime resins.

A 3-days-event opened to public from judging to prize presentation, participants had brought their artifacts to the event and had to collect back their entries on the last day straight after prize presentation. The entries were evaluated based on workmanship, finishing, presentation, details and creativity. After tabulation, the finalists were be awarded with colored stars (gold for the highest recognition).

My pics were not taken entirely on the winning entries but those that appealed to me most. I believed in the constant endeavor to modeling of hobbyists and showing the world that even as a small nation, we do have a handful of passionate modelers with the hobby still clicking after decades and continue to grow.

You sir, have a great eye for composition.

Looks like the DSLR was a well worth purchase for you!

I am always amazed at the details the modelers can put into these tiny models.

Looks like you master the camera already, seriously good photos showing all the awesome detail from the Singaporean modellers.

Do you shrink down your photos on photobucket? Seems a shame to reduce such great photos down to size.

Now that takes me back to my days of youth and building model planes. Thought I can't say I was that detailed.

Thank you for compliments pal. I was really nervous yesterday... Hee! Hee... Still trying to get used viewing through the small viewer. Kind of strenuous to my eye after a while.

I'm glad I was there. These modeler deserved the pat on the shoulders. Good job done!

To play safe, my camera was set to auto mode without flash. I'm really pleased with the pics it gave. I shrank the photo size for easier processing and thought they this size is easier for blog viewing. Understand that the details would somehow be compromised. Just hoping that I should strike a balance.

I remember when I still a kid, my uncle used to do modeling on military kits. Modeling on military kits was like the pioneer in Singapore back then.

those are beautiful works in different scales !!!... actually all of them are nicely detailed and painted... the dioramas are awesome, but what catched my eyes the most was the aircraft carrier !!! there is a lot of work on it and many pieces included... the base that simulates the effect of the carrier breaking the waves is fabulous !!!...

also i agree, there is a noticeable improvement in the quality of the pictures and it was a good decision to avoid the flash which most of the times is a bother in my opinion... yeah it was a good test pal... =)

Good thing is that this competition is fairly open and it seems most of these hobbyists were joyous and there for the experience and getting to meet like-minded people.

Some of the aircraft carriers kits were magnificent and the cutting waves diorama add points to it.

Glad those pics were ok for your viewing. I still have lotz of backlogs pics taken using my old camera waiting to be posted. It would be a mixture of pics quality during this transitional period.

It's really a nice event held at a small chapel like building. Very good atmosphere too!
