Unicorn Gundam Episode 2 ‘The second coming of Char’ Screening Event in Singapore

Disclaimer: For those who hate spoilers should avoid reading further! Anyway, these are only some of my opinions and thoughts after having watched the second episode of Unicorn Gundam. In this episode, the story continues with big-foot class MA like Kshatriya suffering a retreat after the confrontation with Unicorn Gundam. Then the pace started slowing down a little for more characters introduction and development, like Marida Cruz (pilot of Kshatriya), Angelo Sauper with his custom sniper type Geara Zulu and Riddhe Marcenas (pilot of the surviving Rezel team). Two of the characters who give audience the surprise would be unfolding of Audrey Burne true identity as the last surviving member of Zabi family - Mineva Lao Zabi and the leader of the Neo Zeon remnant forces known as Sleeves. This masked man is said to be the reincarnation of Char Aznable and he pilots the Sazabi look alike Sinanju.

Thereafter, adrenaline rush returned with fighting scenes continuing during the second half which I enjoyed most seeing the Rezel team taking on Sinanju. Rezel unit had proof their worth by putting up a better fight than what I saw in the first episode (killed @ 1st sight) but still they were no match to Sinanju who took them on single-handedly. The real challenge only starts when wonder boy Banagher and his Unicorn Gundam came to the rescue. This is the moment, you get to witness the intensity of Unicorn Gundam’s beam rifle (killing a Geara Zulu from a far distance in strayshot) and its I-field when shielding sniping beam rounds).

One scene that resemble a lot to the ‘First Gundam’ anime would be Sinanju giving Unicorn Gundam a kick. Suddenly, flashback of Char’s Zaku II kicking Amuro Ray’s Gundam RX-78-2 ran through my mind when I saw that. Before the end of the episode there was a glimpse of London Bell’s latest MS ‘Delta Plus’ which I believed Riddhe Marcenas would take Mineva Lao Zabi and escape in this MS (Just a wild guess). Oh, I almost forgotten, I saw GM III too!

This anime is well suit on big screen for it's great graphic which is not over done. The ideology difference of Zeon & EFSF will take you thinking how all these be resolved. Hope not to see another tragic ending of U.C.

My friend already watch it, not me..T~T..

This ep is going to be very interesting, alot of spin offs, & Frontal did say about "reincarnation of Char", meh, try to confuse the audience isn't it ? hehe.

Ugu, wanna see how the Kshatriya vs Unicorn really end up.

From your intro and the trailer released some time ago, it seems like there's not much difference between the OVA and the novel for Episode 2. I read the novel before this so I could relate to some of the plot points you mentioned here, and I do agree, Episode 2 is more on the characters and their background. In terms of pacing and storytelling, I believe this episode would be better than the previous one, since Episode 1 condensed 2 books into a single OVA. A lot of the details from the novel weren't really explained as much and as well if compared to the writing.

In this episode, Sleeves didn't say clearly that his not Char. making people believed that he is the ghost of Char or Char himself. Gotten wait till next year Marc to continue the OVA.

Actually I did watch the anime online before the screening and it's really fresh for me. Maybe it's old news. Thanx master for the heads up and I'm impressed that you already know so much about the story thru its novel. It's very true that when converted to OVA, some of the details would be lost especially the inner feeling and some time the thoughts of the characters.

The red robot looks fierce and cool..Unicorn Gundam looks like very popular now :P

Sinanju is one badass MS adopting the popular Sazabi. I guess what makes Unicorn Gundam popular would be fans' interest in U.C timeline after 'Char's Counterattack'.

Great review. I also wrote a review too.

This episode really rocks. Is been a long time since I felt so much excitment about watching a Gundam series. Both Unicorn & Sinanju duking it out was truly one of the best Gundam action sequence around. The last time I felt this rush was when I watch the 1st Zeta Re-make movie the first time, when Amuro rammed his aircraft into the Asshimar. Awesomeness!

Yes, the collision of Unicorn Gundam & Sinanju certainly sets the standard of Gundam action sequels. I must say Zeta Translation was an encouraging effort to groom the original Z Gundam series.
