One of those HG kit released at the earlier stage, RGM-79 (G) Ground Type, from the OVA '08th MS Team' is a side story within One Year War. Economically produced and slight variations from the regular GM units, This ground-type grunt MS ground sworn to combat Zaku from dense jungles to hot desert. It was seen in the OVA that a few of these yellow and orangish colour schemed, MS were assigned to Team 07. RGM-79 (G) Ground Type does look even more lighter armoured and though the shield seems cool and easy to strike enemy with a thrust, it give very little protection to the MS.

The GM seems to exist only to get blown up by bad guys -- at least that's been its fate historically in the Gundam universe. It seems in the mind of EFGF, these GM was built in strategy to overwhelm the remaining few Zeon strongholds by pounding with multiple projectile weapons like the bazooka and triple missile launcher, before annihilating those half-dead Zaku with machine gun and beam saber in closer range. This 1/144 kit is up to all the usual Bandai quality standards.

Its main shortcoming is the limited range of shoulder and arm rotation, which make this kit inferior to new HGUC kits nowadays where such problem had been overcome. It was a kit I did some time back trying to make it look more weathered and slight battle damaged on the left shoulder. Seems like it didn't go very well. Hee! Hee!

no wonder this MS has suffered so many casualties in the battle field, it looks like "cannon fodder" compared with specialized units, the shield seems to be an "adornment" and despite the armament, it should be an easy target for the more prepared Zeon units... well, that’s what you could expect from an actual war: "anonymous" soldiers acting like "padding", when most officials are making decisions, safely in their headquarters... i guess that’s why Gundam Series captured a loyal audience !!!... =D

The protection and armament of GM Ground are indeed weak and looks hardly a resistance to the Zaku. E.F.G.F strategy is the number game since they have the resources on their side. The shield looks pathetic however it is one of the best designed shields and is effective for quick reflexes. Hail to visor mecha!

Yeah! Maybe Bandai would one day release the HGUC version like what they did for EZ-8.
