EVA Unit-00 Action Figure (SEGA)

Rei remains evergreen and even took up the role as ambassador to Japan tourism board

My mood is definitely not in the blue having this EVA Unit 00 in my 'A' list of mecha toy collection. I got this on Yahoo Japan by engaging a third party. Probably due to the poor translation, the iconic red spear was missing, making this review rather incomplete.

The packaging was typical blister card so you clearly see the actual toy and accessories. Collectors could just opened the toy by sliding the backer card out, after removing the staples without damaging the integrity of the packaging. The amount of accessories thrown in provided a good reason for buying the toy and in my opinion had compensated the figure's lack of articulation.

The action figure stands approximately 8" (good size for display) with more than decent sculpt and paint job. The elbows were the only parts with ball joints whereas other limb joints only allowed minimum movement, back and forth. Other weapon that came were the bazooka, a pistol and that huge heavy shield for maximum protection. I was a bit more adventurous this time to mantle with the legs and came to realise that this old figure by SEGA actually could go down on kneeling pose.

The pilot of Unit 00 is none other than Rei Ayanami! The female anime character that casted deep impression and even after decades, Rei remains evergreen and even took up the role as ambassador to Japan tourism board. It would dream for me to revisit Tokyo again and have Koohii at Akihabara.

if i’m not wrong this was the replace of the heavily damaged yellow 00 which is the one that remains printed in your mind... if not for the fleeting appearance of this version most of the people would remember it... in blue the 00 looks really good but the yellow is still my favorite... sorry to hear that the mythical Longinus spear is missing... =(

You really know the story well pal. When it comes to EVA, my knowledge of it somehow lacks. My personal preference is this blue Unit-00 but would wish to one day have the yellow version as well. Hopefully to get those LMHG EVA kits too!

I have this one as well. The Longinus spear is long, spanning a length that towers over the kit. Pity its missing as I felt that is a great accessory for a budget toy.

Speaking of Kohii, if the ones we have at Funan is considered "Kawaii Kohii", I bet the one u drink at Akiba on ur coming trip shall be classed as Super-Duper-Cho-Kawaii-Awesomeness-Kohii! (And Im not juz talking about the kohii/coffee) Heehee : p

The Longinus spear is indeed an icon to the figure and missing it like missing the damashii. Gotten read between the lines to decode you comment and I really hope that the trip to promised land can turn reality soon.

The finishing of this old chum is still very impressive!

Better than some older revoltechs i would say.

It's a figure that's good to own and could relate well to the anime. I didn't get the EVA Revoltech mainly I find the early Revoltech a bit small for display. However Revoltech is engineered for humanoid articulation which in concept excellent for EVA units.

Looking back, I really should have kept these figures - what was I thinking all those years ago X(

Still not too late to get it back... The price didn't rise a lot. Or better get the Kaiyodo version. Better paint work with weathering.
