Chogokin Turn-A Gundam

No offense to the designer of Turn-A Gundam, Mr Syd Mead, a renowned visual futurist & concept design. He's also the designer of 'Light Cycles' in the movie 'Tron'. However till this moment, I still couldn't quite accept a Gundam in this form. Due to the fact of the design, Turn-A Gundam anime series may have been the only Gundam series which I have rejected watching till today. Well, at least I still bought this chogokin toy which I think was considered well-made. The size of this toy is approximately the scale of a regular 1/60 with a lot more weigh due to its metal composite. All the weapons Turn-A supposedly have are in. Playable fun factors come from the missiles chamber on the chest and escape core fighter attached to the groin area. What a place for an escape pod. Ha! Ha!

I love RX78 more than this Gundam...

  2. Oh yes, we have this Gundam without the V-fin but a big white mustache. That's a unconventional Gundam and yes, it can't beat the original RX-78-2

  3. i think that this kind of figure must cause some itch in the Gundam fans for its unconventional design... it’s like a Batman seen trought the eyes of artists from the east side of the world, it must b shocking... but that’s precisely its charm... & well, as a chogokin is an awesome figure, stupendous, congrats pal !!! =)

  5. Yes,Dennis senpai...
    West meets the East...
That's how I can explain it...
But East culture will win for sure...
    I thought so...

  7. Not a fan of Turn A as well, but being a fan of turn-based robot games like SRW and SD Gen Gundam, one can't help but deploy Turn A for the sheer ability of the unit. Moonlight butterfly pwns all..

  8. Have not watched Turn A yet either but will once i watched G Gundam, Victory and Wing.

I really like the design, so different to the usual Japanese mecha and really unusual for Syd Mead i think.

    Its a great looking toy!

  9. Like most people would use this quote; "Never judge a book by its cover", I'll say give it a go watch this series completely then ya know (apart of weirdos of MS & makeups &.......whatever) that the storyline is quite good actually.

Put aside the mustache, let's see more Dark History of it, & the Moonlight Butterfly !

  10. Haha... I do agree the Turn A Gundam is very different from the conventional Gundam. But the series is quite interesting and refreshing actually. It really offers a new and fresh perspective from the typical gundam series XD

  11. >> Tachikawa
I guess we are both more inclined to Jap culture due to more exposure to anime, manga and games.

It's still hard for me to accept this as a Gundam even thou Syd Mead had come out with many successful concepts that rocks. Somehow, it just feel different.

Oh yes, very often in SD Gundam G generation series, Turn-A Gundam is one powerful Gundam and usually would take more time to unlock. Still, it's cold storage under my command. Lol...

I seriously think Bandai wanted something special during the time and wanted take away the stereotyping design of Gundam. No doubt this is a good attempt. Still it will leave of fans scratching their head. One of them would be me.

So are very sound advises bro. I guess I have rejected it even before understanding. Nevertheless, I heard Turn-A Gundam has a depth story and the ending was voted by fans in Japan to be one of the best.

    >> Gundam Gunso
I think I should give it a try during my spare time. Never know I might be hooked to the anime. Anyway, none of the MS in this series kind of attract me. Sigh....

  12. I find its a brave move and something refreshing. As most Gundam retain most of the head design but this one is totally off. But it's a good thing. LOL

  13. I never understood this Gundam series or Mecha either. However, I actually used to have this a while back and thought it was the coolest thing.

The accessories rocked this figure and the metal parts gave it some serious weight.

  14. The weapon I like about Turn A Gundam is the Iron Ball...
    Same as RX78 Gundam Weapon...
