Here's a flashback posting of one of those 1st few batches of early MSIA that were released in 1999. One of those in my collection is this loose Bandai series 1 MSIA Zaku 2 which I had the pics retaken. I would say it's an action figure suitable for young children above the age of 3, who has yet to pick up Gunpla assembling skills. The accessories are also least hazard as they are rubbery and bended easily, hence ain't easy to break. It's the kind of robust action figure that's sure fun to play with. Well, it suited me in the past. Lol....
In comparison with it's predecessor, this pioneer version is smaller (standing slightly below 4") and lacks articulation. The preprinted panel lines appears too thick and obvious as well. I had thrown off the box and I could not find any appropriate pic on the original packaging via internet.
The MSIA series was, during the first two years when I started Gunpla-ing a very important Gundam merchandises series. It's probably as popular and important as the HCM-Pro series nowadays. Seeing those thick panel lines and huge hands is quite nostalgic for me ^^
ReplyDeleteAlthough some would say their quality isn't as good as the Gunpla version or even the HCM-Pro series, I think they do have high value for collection. ^^
Hi Ngee Khiong,
ReplyDeleteU'r right, the old MSIA are a lot more inferior compared to Gunpla and HCM-Pro. These ragged action figures are meant for small boys who play and mistreat them. Hee! Hee!
actually I realy put a respect on u sir, u have a great collection especialy for MSIA too..
ReplyDeletethose zaku made me want to review my MSIA sandrock too :D
I have always wonder which came first, the Zaku or the Cylon - lol

ReplyDeleteBro, I sure you are also deep respected by your readers for the great knowledge you have on toys. I also have loose Sandrock and hope to review it in future. Maybe you could start with yours.

I wasn't exposed to Battlestar Galactica and I know Zaku first. So I cast my vote for Zaku. Lol....

Nope, I usually will not do touch up to action figure. I prefer action figure in their original form.
No matter how robust a figure might be, children will somehow manage to destroy it! (based on my own experience though) XD
ReplyDeleteI think u could search the net for the msia rx78 to display with it side by side. They'll look cool!!
indeed is something like a trading figure with articulation, sturdy, basic but nicely detailed... in a few years it will b officially a vintage HAHAHAHAHA =)

Good thing the figure looks proportional. I didn't realized this is already such an old toy.
The only Zaku I have is
ReplyDeleteZaku 2,Zaku 2S and Zaku 3...
This MSIA Zaku 2 sure looks good...
That's quite a few already bro. There's certain degree of charm in Zaku that it come to people's mind after the thought of Gundam.
ReplyDeleteI only have three...
ReplyDeletebut two of them had been broke by one of my aunties children...
It is Zaku 2 and Zaku 2S...
